QUWF Holds wildlife and Conservation Youth Day with 170 Attendees

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

April 5, 2022

Buffalo, MO: Focusing on creating new future stewards of the land, the Quail and Upland Wildlife Federation, Inc (QUWF) approaches youth events with an eye for our youth to experience the true outdoor options. “We want our youth events to teach about the outdoors by experiencing options open to our youth and adults alike. Our recent event put on by the MO. Grouse Chapter in Hermann, MO did just that” explains Craig Alderman.

Shut down for nearly 2 years because of COVID precautions, the large youth event opened back up at the Sportsman’s Complex in Hermann. 170 youth attended with 60 trained volunteers and mentors present. “We had a great variety in 25 stations to choose from” stated Tom Westoff Chair of the Chapter. “We offered hands on experience of trap, skeet, rifle, pistol, archery, cross bow, casting, fly tying, fly casting, BB Guns, black power, trapping for example and nature walks with Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) mentors explaining wildlife and their habitat. The attendees got to see owls, falcons and a bald eagle up close and personal from the St. Louis Aviary” Tom explained.

Another station let the youth actually build blue bird boxes (see photo). “This was just a superb hands-on event to get kids interested in the true outdoor options and learn about the responsibility of managing the resources creating the opportunity, this is what QUWF is all about” said Nick Prough, Chief Wildlife Biologist of QUWF and who spoke to the kids about wildlife conservation.

“Again, we want to thank the chapter volunteers, the Missouri Department of Conservation and the community for providing the donated breakfast and lunch offerings, total manpower requirements and a wonderful experience for our youth. No other program offers anything like this.” Concludes Alderman.
